Martin R. Howden, age 88, of Shelton entered into rest on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Griffin Hospital with his children by his side. He was the devoted husband of the late Elaine (Hilbrick) Howden. Marty was born in Chicago, IL, on August 23, 1929, son of the late Martin H. and Anne (Lyons) Howden. Marty and Elaine settled in Shelton in 1970 after relocating to the east coast in 1966. Mr. Howden was a Project Manager and telephone engineer at GTE Corporation for over 35 years before his retirement. He continued to be tech savvy including learning new computer programming languages, keeping up on Facebook and reading books on his iPad. He proudly served with the U.S. Army in the 1950’s and he was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 16. He was a diehard fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball Team. Mr. Howden is the beloved father of Annie Howden Yarmy and Michael Howden and his wife Jennifer. He was the proudest grandfather to Emmy Yarmy, and Riley and Casey Howden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Additionally, his beloved dog, Augie, is being well cared for in his new home with family friend Annie Reed in Maine. Mr. Howden is predeceased by his siblings Bob Howden and Jane Mikita. On Saturday, June 16th, friends are invited to his Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church. His entombment with military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter Garden Mausoleum. Following the entombment, everyone is invited to his repast at Vazzy’s Cucina, 706 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton.
