Grace Marie (Gracie) Grasso
With her family at her side and buoyed by the love of her many friends and neighbors, Grace passed peacefully on Saturday morning, July 22, 2017 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was born in Bridgeport CT on December 10, 1925 to Salvatore and Phyllis (Cirella) Grasso, and was a resident of Shelton. Grace worked at Sikorsky Aircraft before finding her true vocation as a nurse’s aide at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, where her kind and gentle spirit helped those in her care, and where she made lifelong friends among the nursing staff. In retirement she loved entertaining and cooking for others, composing unique personal poems, engaging in conversations on any subject, and relating often-hilarious stories of her life and family. She was blessed with a sharp mind and eagerly shared memories that we all treasure. Grace was predeceased by her beloved companion Victor Gaetano, with whom she shared life and laughs, as well as travel when they were not enjoying their waterfront view. Survivors include her cherished brother, Leonard A. Grasso of Southern Pines, NC, eight nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and -nephews. Friends in The Maples community held her close to their hearts, and Grace’s family is forever appreciative of the special bond and caring she was shown. Her family also thanks the amazing care from the Stratford Visiting Nurses Association, and the dedicated and compassionate staffs at Smilow Cancer Center and Griffin Hospital in Derby, and The Connecticut Hospice.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 3:30 PM at Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, CT 06484. Friends may come wish Grace a beautiful flight with her angel wings from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Private Interment will be held at Beaverdale Memorial Park in Hamden CT.
