Obituary for Donald Samatulski
Donald J. Samatulski, age 66, of Shelton entered into rest at home on March 17, 2017. He was born in Bridgeport on May 6, 1950, the son of the late Alexander and Susan (Olexovitch) Szamatulski. Don was raised in Bridgeport and was very active in sports. As a member of North End Little League Team he participated in the Little League World Series. He graduated from Central High School where he was a standout athlete and lettered in baseball, basketball, and golf. In 1983 he moved to Milford where he resided until 1998. He then moved to Lake Placid and then finally to Shelton where he has resided ever since. Don has been a main stay in the golfing community for more than four decades. He started his career as a club pro and worked at various clubs such as Rock Ridge in Newtown, Racebrook Country Club in Orange, Fairchild Wheeler in Fairfield, and Saranac Lake in New York. As an amateur, Don finished 28th at the 1973 United States Public Links Championship. In 2008, he was named the NCAA Division II Northeast Coach of the Year at Pace University. As an assistant coach at Post University, he helped the squad to an NCAA Tournament berth in his first season. He joined the Sacred Heart University family in August 2015 as an assistant coach for the men and womenís golf teams. He helped the Pioneer womenís golf team to a runner-up finish at the 2016 Northeast Conference Championships. Donald is survived by his daughter Kara Samatulski, his sister Carol Samatulski, his former spouse Mary Ellen Samatulski, and two stepsons Gregor and Kurt Bobowick. He was predeceased by his loving dog companion Heidi. Friends are invited to greet Donís family on Monday March 20, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton.
