Joseph Christopher McCaffrey, age 76, of Shelton passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dolores Erickson McCaffrey for 44 years. Mr. McCaffrey was born in the Bronx in New York, on December 26, 1935 son of the late Joseph and Marian Hunt McCaffrey. He was the loving father of Joseph Eric McCaffrey and his wife Amanda Dunlap and Christina Erin Valko and her husband Slavomir. Mr. McCaffrey was the loving grandfather of Alexander Liam Valko. Mr. McCaffrey was a member of the New York City Fire Department for 36 years, serving as both a Firefighter and Fire Marshall. He was a U.S. Army Veteran with the 10th Mountain Division, serving from 1954 to 1956. Mr. McCaffrey enjoyed golf, swimming, tennis and walks on the beach.
Friends may call on Friday from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. His funeral will leave the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church. His burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Webster Avenue and East 233rd Street, Bronx, New York. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Uniformed Firefighters Association Widow’s and Children’s Fund, 204 East 23rd Street, New York, NY 10010, with checks payable to The UFA Widow’s and Children’s Fund.
